Kiko Milano Hydrating Primer review

We all know about my love for all things Kiko Milano. It is easily one of my favorite drugstore priced brands as they dupe out a lot of luxury and more high end makeup with just as good quality. Last year I decided to buy a full face of Kiko again and this primer I now finally tried more in my Shop My Stash.

By now this primer is already used up. One thing I notice with affordable primers is that they don’t last long. Not in terms of making your makeup last, but in terms of the product being used up quickly. This tube only lasted me about 6 weeks.

Review: Kiko Milano Hydrating Perfecting face base

This primer isn’t the cheapest but it also isn’t super expensive. At €13.99 for a full priced tube this is a bit too expensive though for how long I used it. I do believe I bought this on a discount so I didn’t pay more than €10 for it, but still I think it’s a bit too expensive to keep repurchasing all the time. I buy Kiko in store or through their official website.

What does this primer have to offer?

I love a good hydrating primer so when I spotted this on the website I knew instantly that I wanted to try it. This primer promises to hydrated while also making your face look more evened out. It should minimize texture and contains some skincare ingredients.

Unfortunately for me I could instantly tell this product wouldn’t last long and I didn’t find it as hydrating at it promises to be. It has a very thick consistency and you need a lot of product to cover your entire face. It also has a weird plastic like smell, which tells me that this primer is mostly silicones which are never my favorite primers to work with.

What does this primer look like on the skin?

If we consider what we need a primer to do than I can say this did perform well. It glides onto the face but there isn’t any noticeable blow or added benefits that are visible straight up. It’s just a clear primer. It sits well under makeup and makeup applies beautifully on top of it. It also ensures your makeup to last well. I wore it consistently in hot and humid weather and it definitely helped my makeup to stay on all day without it looking dry and cakey.

Should you buy the Kiko Milano Hydrating primer?

While I had a great experience using this I just feel this one isn’t worth a recommendation. It feels like a very old school primer and I just feel there are better formulas out there that feel much more hydrating on the skin and do a whole lot more.

What’s more I have used primers by Catrice and Essence that are less than half the price of this that do more for my skin than this one. All in all, this is not one that I would repurchase. Is it a good primer? Sure, but nothing that stands out from the crowd.

Hi, thanks for the review! Jus FYI: this doesn’t contain any silicones as stated on the packaging and Kiko’s webpage. Maybe you could edit that part. I disagree about the “old school formula”, it’s not easy formulating a primer without silicones. I actually think this is very elegantly formulated with glycerine and tapioca starch. Makeup applies beautifully on this and I have now put my fav Lancome La Base to rest in favor of this. Agree about the smell: it oscillates between a sweet plastic and baby powder kind of scent. It doesn’t contain any fragrance som my guess is that it maybe is the cherry water included in the formula? However, it disappears within minutes.

Hi thanks for the feedback. I am only pointing out it feels like it has silicones and it’s a feeling I don’t like. So while this works it’s not hydrating for my dry skin like I know other, much cheaper brands can actually do. My favorite primer is still the Milk Hydrogrip.
