Tag time! I thought it was high time for me to do a beauty tag. I don’t do these too often, but they are fun from time to time. Today I will be taking you through a rather controversial topic in the land of beauty: low budget vs. high end make up products. Care to know what I prefer to spend a bit more on or what I love saving my pennies on? Then stay tuned!

Budget vs High end
Do you have more low budget or high end products in your make up collection?
I think it’s mostly 50/50, though in some categories one or the other type of product is more prevalent than another. I have for instance mostly budget concealers, but most of my bronzers are high end. But I do have to say that the more make up I try, the more I like my high end products. The quality is often times better and I find that the more pricey products also expire less quickly.
Low-budget or high end mascara?
Budget most definitely! But not super low budget: I swear by L’Oreal and Maybelline mascaras which are a bit more higher end drugstore products here. However, I always buy them on offer which makes them a lot less expensive and they are still half the price of a Dior mascara.
Low-budget or high end foundation?
High end I’m afraid. I find the formulas easier to work with, the shade range is usually a lot better and the staying power is a lot nicer as well. I will use a drugstore foundation for a while, but then after a few weeks I always revert back to my high end foundations. In the end, I also think that cost per wear for a high end foundation turns out to be pretty reasonable. If you think I have had a certain Dior foundation for almost 3 years now that is only halfway gone vs a Rimmel foundation I feel I only used for a few weeks last year and is already used up for 1/4 of the bottle then I think the higher end foundation do give you more bang for your buck.
Low-budget or high end eyeshadow palettes?
I like both, but in all honesty, I do wear my high end palettes a lot more. I rotate the palettes I use on a regular basis (read: every day) and I am quicker to grab for my high end palettes than the low budget ones. But I love my affordable eyeshadow palettes. There are a few by Make Up Revolution, I Heart Make Up, Catrice and let’s not forget about Sleek, that I wouldn’t want to miss in my collection for the world.
Which product do you always buy from a low budget brand?
Brow products! Some of my all time favorite brow products are by Catrice and Soap & Glory. I have tried higher end varieties in the past and just think that you can easily do your brows for less.
Which product do you always buy from a high end brand?
Bronzer? Or highlight? I have found good products from drugstore brands, but to be fair, I much more prefer my higher end products in those categories. Bronzer because I’m fair skinned and most low budget bronzers make me look like an oompa loompa with a fake tan. And most budget highlighters, while pretty, contain some sort of glitter or shimmer or a finish that just doesn’t make me grab for them that often.
What product did you used to buy high end, but have you now switched out for a budget variety?
Mascara is the first thing that springs to mind, but I would have to say make up in general. When I first started wearing make up I thought it had to be expensive in order to look good. After testing and trying, I have found out that is not the case at all. There are some great drugstore options out there, it just takes a little bit more effort to find them.
Why doesn’t this product have a low budget equivalent yet?
Eyeshadow primer! I have tried sooooo many and unfortunately, none of them work for me. So I stuck with Lorac, Too Faced and Urban Decay for that category. I do like the NYX one though. Their HD eyeshadow primer definitely gets the job done, but I still much more prefer the high end version.
There is no luxury make up product that can hold a candle to this budget product:
A Dior highlighter. Especially when they still came in the hefty metallic packaging, I thought it to be one of the best high end make up products on the market. Sadly, their highlighters now come in plastic packaging and feel hardly as luxurious, but I own three of them and I feel like a princess each time I use them.
Would you rather spoil yourself with 10 cheap items or 1 expensive item?
That depends on my mood. I love trying out loads of budget items to test and see how good they are. But if I am truly in a mood to reward myself and spoil myself, then I would pick an expensive item every time. There is just an experience that comes with buying a luxury make up product, which makes me a lot more emotionally attached to the product.
I would like to tag Adryana, Hilde, Astrid, and Jolanda. And anyone else who would like to do this tag!
