Reading challenge update

I thought it would be fun to shoot a chatty, rambly type video in which I update you on my experiences so far doing the Goodreads Reading Challenge. It’s the first time I’m participating and my goal is to reach 50 books by the end of the year. By now I’m terribly behind (that July reading slump didn’t help), but I thought it would still be fun to tell you about what I love and what are some of the downsides of trying to read 50 books in one year for me.

My experiences with the Goodreads Reading Challenge

For me it’s the first time trying the Goodreads reading challenge and I set myself a goal to read 50 books in 2016. There are a few reasons for this, which I mention in the video. We’re in September now, meaning I’ve truly given this challenge a fair shot. Currently I am 4 books behind, which I’m a bit bummed about, but if you have any suggestions for quick reads that could amp up the numbers than feel free to let me know!

What are your experiences with the Goodreads Reading Challenge?

You & I sound like similar readers. I try to mix in some intellectual nonfiction with popcorn books. I used to be really disciplined about finishing any book I started. Same reasons as you stated, but personally I broke that habit. If I’m not reading because I’m not learning or finding the topic interesting or entertaining I stop. I feel there’s no point to waste my time on literature I don’t enjoy when there’s so much I want to get my eyeballs on. I recently started a new job with an hour round trip. I’m going to have to get some audio books. Of course I also worry about not listening to music as often. Lol talk about rambly! Sorry! I’m 19books into my 24 challenge. I love using goodreads😆

I spotted Emma Cline’s The Girls at a bookstore the other day and now I know why it sounded familiar! I read that blurp several times thinking: that might be interesting. And I blame studying English literature pretty hardcore for 6 years at uni. I was taught to never let go of a book, so now I rarely do.
