1 jeans, 5 ways to wear it

Jeans and t-shirt: a uniform many people swear by. It makes for a basic outfit that cannot go wrong. It is safe, it is simple, yet so versatile at the same time. Jeans are a staple, even in my diverse wardrobe and I love wearing them. But I thought, why not see if a plain pair of stonewashed blue denim can look a little bit more stylish and interesting by putting some other clothing items into the mix. I present to you: 1 jeans, 5 ways to wear it.

1 jeans, 5 ways to wear it

What we will be working with today: Topshop Jamie jeans in a mid stonewash denim blue

In the past 18 months I’ve done a few of these 1…, 5 ways to wear it type posts and this is the last one I have planned out. So feel free to check them out. I did one based on a sweater, on a dress, on a skirt and on a shirt. I liked doing these posts as it gave me ideas for pairing some of my more basic items. Please let me know in a comment below if you would like me to style up some other basic items.

1.) With a blouse

Baby pink heart print cropped button down shirt with peter pan collar (H&M)

Blouses and button down shirts are one of my staples come spring time and so I cannot wait for the weather to warm up here so I can wear this again. It is definitely one of my more out there pieces, but I absolutely love it. It comes up a little bit shorter as it has a cropped length and the print adds some sweet and cheeky to the overall outfit. I would pair this with a pair of ankle boots or a pair of black heels to play up the cutesy part of the blouse.

2.) With a cardigan

Mustard yellow cardigan (Vila)
White t-shirt (H&M)

I love mustard yellow, but it is a difficult color to pull off. But when you find that right shade that suits you, I think it’s a color that is perfect for fall, but also spring time. Paired with a white t-shirt you add a touch of freshness and an outfit that can be worn year round. I would wear this with a pair of Dr Marten’s to toughen up the overall look.

3.) With a t-shirt

Boxy scallop rim top (Topshop)

This is a different take on a classic jean’s + t-shirt combo. Where a plain t-shirt can look just as nice, I think this top adds a little something extra because of the scalloped edge. The fit of this is quite square and boxy, which means it goes perfectly with a pair of skinny jeans. For shoes, I think you can go many different ways: from a pair of red Converse sneakers, to heels, Chelsea boots or a pair of Doc’s. With this outfit you can style it up or down whichever way you want.

4.) With a printed cropped top

Striped crop top (H&M)

If you have the confidence to do so, a highwaisted pair of jeans with a crop top makes for a great 90s inspired combo. I would opt for a cardigan with this outfit, as I don’t like exposing too much flesh, but you can wear this as is. I love a good stripe and paired with jeans, I think it makes for a great laid back outfit. Pair it with a beret and a cutesy pair of flats for that Parisian inspired flare.

5.) With a bright pop of color

Vintage red wool blend blazer (Blitz, London)
Black t-shirt (H&M)

This vintage wool blend blazer is one of the most treasured items in my closet. I love pairing it with plain jeans during winter. The 80s fit of this blazer makes an outfit a bit more boyish. That is why I prefer to wear this with a skinny denim jeans to make the rest of the outfit more streamlined and really make the blazer pop. And I love a good pop of red against a standard denim blue. Wear with loafers or brogues to play up the androgynous vibes. More of a girly girl? Then a chic pair of barely there heels will be your best bet.

How do you spice up your plain pair of denim jeans?

You missed the classic! Jeans + white tee. I admit it’s a bit daunting, because finding well-fitting jeans AND a flattering, classic white tee is not easy (when you’re short like us it’s a real challenge). And the combo hides nothing… But when you manage it’s such a great classic combination!

  3. […] For years, Topshop has been making my favorite jeans. I own a few pairs of Leighs, Joni, but my absolute favorites have to be the Jamie’s. Lately, I’ve been finding myself gravitating towards jeans again a little bit more. I love how versatile these are, especially in this stonewash mid blue denim shade. I used these jeans to show some of my favorite jeans combos in this blog post. […]
