I finally got myself a Netflix subscription. Yes, I know, I am way late to the party. But better late then never, no? I waded through some of their selections, but there is so much that sounds good that I don’t even know where to start. I already made my way through Narcos and I am now trying to pick and choose what to watch next. I have a few series that have caught my eye upon browsing, but if you have any other suggestions, then I am all ears. But here’s what I think I might watch next.
What Netflix series do you recommend?
1.) Orphan Black
When Sarah witnesses a suicide of a woman who looks just like her, she assumes the deceased’s identity — and unlocks a world of secrets
I have heard so much about this series! So I hope to watch this. I am not someone who is typically into these kind of story lines, but since everyone is raving about this, I think I may have to give it a try.
2.) The Killing
Danish detective Sarah Lund investigates homicides connected to larger local and global political events in this Scandanavian crime series
This series comes recommended by my mom. She’s been watching plenty of Danish TV series and she’s the one who put me onto Borgen, which I saw and enjoyed. Time for me to explore some Danish detective series methinks.
3.) The Bridge
When a body is found on the bridge between Denmark and Sweden, a Danish inspector and a Swedish detective must work together to find the killer.
Another Scandanavian series that my mom recommended to me is the Bridge. Again, something I think I might enjoy based on what my mom already told me about the story and its characters.
4.) Peaky Blinders
A notorious gang in 1919 Birmingham, England, is led by the fierce Tommy Shelby, a crime boss set on moving up in the world, no matter the cost.
I love a good crime drama, especially if it is set in turn of the 20th century England. The days when crooks still dressed like gentlemen but never shunned excessive violence.
5.) Ray Donovan
Los Angeles’ rich and famous always call Ray Donovan to get them out of hot water — but he can’t seem to solve the problems his family creates.
I first came across this series back when I had an HBO trial subscription and I was instantly intrigued. Troubled family man by day, assassin and overal brutish gangster by night it seems and I like those kind of conflicted characters.
6.) Jessica Jones
Haunted by a traumatic past, Jessica Jones uses her gifts as a private eye to find her tormentor before he can harm anyone else in Hell’s Kitchen.
This is the newest series on this list and a Netflix original series. I mainly just want to watch this because David Tennant (from Doctor Who and Broadchurch fame) is the main antagonist in this story. It also seems to boast a strong female lead, which I always think is a plus.
