Drugstore makeup is not worth it

Today I have a bit of a controversial one for you: drugstore makeup is not worth it. And when I say drugstore makeup I mean brands that a lot of people can buy quite easily: L’Oreal, Maybelline, Rimmel, NYX etc. I personally love testing makeup, but over time I have found that these brands are just not as accessible to me as a lot of other people. They are expensive for what they offer, lots of products aren’t available here and I have had bad experiences with shade ranges and just don’t find them all that innovative. So yes, they may be cheaper than high end brands, but sometimes you are better off spending more. Cheaper doesn’t mean better. Here’s why I don’t try more drugstore makeup.

In today’s video I unpack the price point, availability and lack of quality and innovation. And I bring receipts. I screengrabbed products from websites in The Netherlands (where I live), Germany and the UK to showcase how expensive ‘affordable’ drugstore makeup is. I then talk about availability: the lack of launches (we get things up to a year later if we get it at all) and shade ranges (even if a shade exists it isn’t sold here). Thirdly I wanted to dive a bit deeper into drugstore makeup essentially only existing at the mercy of more expensive brands. All they seem to do is dupe things nowadays and the lack of innovation I feel is truly killing my joy in trying them. So I try K-beauty instead: better shades, better availability, similar or cheaper price point for what you get and innovative formulas that Western brands have started to dupe left right and center.
