Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Cream Bronzer review

Fenty Beauty is one of those beauty brands that can do very little wrong in my book. I have some shadows by them that I love, I have lip products that are holy grails and now that the brand has been exploring dewy complexion products I can now get away with those too. But their complexion products weren’t my favorites for a long time. The Cheeks Out Cream Bronzer is part of that category for me. Let me explain why.

Fenty Beauty is of course the queen of shade selection. This bronzer comes in 7 shades, but you can be deceived (like I was) because not all shades are the same undertone. Ambra is not only the lightest shade available, it also more of a contour than a bronzer. I probably would have been better off using Biscuit but this just wasn’t my favorite.

Review: Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer in Ambra

At around €35 a pop these weren’t cheap. If I am not mistaken Ambra was first released in a stick form and then the shade was morfed into this compact version. It is available at Sephora and the official Fenty Beauty website. On the official website this is currently on sale. So it could be that they are discontinuing this.

What does this bronzer do?

This had so many good thing about it on paper for me. I love Fenty Beauty (their powder bronzer is a holy grail, I’ve hit pan). It is a sheer formula that can be build up to add the right amount and it comes in heaps of shades. What is not to love right? Well, what if this product is difficult to blend as on my dry skin it just settles down instantly and then ends up looking patchy. And that is just one of the issues I had with this.

What does this look like in a swatch?

I really wanted to like this, but unfortunately you can already see in the swatch why I don’t like it. See how it is very concentrated in the middle, but then the edges aren’t? That’s what would happen if I tried to blend this with a brush. It was a tough product to work with. It was best applied with fingers but that took too much time for a day to day thing. To make matters worse, this looked a bit green once it dried down which was not a good look.

What does it look like on the cheeks?

So objectively I like the look of this on the cheek. But once applied I feel it looks far more warm toned than in the finger swatch where it seems to have a grey tint. On the cheeks this looks like a muddy green. It is patchy (look at that dark spot that wasn’t there before in the middle) and it moved my makeup when I tried to blend this into the skin. Overall it was just a chore to get this to look nice. Yes it worked if I sat with it and really gave it some time, but I don’t have time as I am getting ready for work and so I never ended up reaching for this on the daily.

Should you try the Fenty Beauty Cream Bronzer?

I think the Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Cream Bronzer can still be nice for some people. If you have oily skin you may love this. Also if you have an olive undertone this may be beautiful on you. For me it just didn’t tick all the boxes and so I stuck with the Fenty Beauty powder bronzer instead. I hope the brand comes out with a more dewy bronzer in the future. I think I would like that a lot more.
