Today we are kicking off the Japan vlogs with an account of just over my first week traveling. I left on 11 July which was a Friday and I am closing this vlog Saturday a week later on my final night in Kyoto. I spent one night in Tokyo before moving on to Matsumoto (2 nights) and Kyoto (5 nights). So let me take you around as I show you all the things I did in my first full week in Japan.

I chose to start my trip in Matsumoto: this is a smaller city about 3.5 hours away from Tokyo that is known for it’s access to the mountains and one of the best examples of a traditional Japanese castle. I wanted to start my trip small to get used to being in a completely different country with a very different culture and language to my own. Rather than dive into the craziness that is Tokyo, I decided to start slow. Best decision ever.
I then moved on to Kyoto and I love visiting historic sites when traveling and Kyoto has plenty to come by. I was there while a summer festival was on (Gion Matsuri) so I witnessed that and I spent my time mainly temple hopping, lots of walking, great food and even some hiking. I have my Google maps linked down below where I kept track of all the places I went to.
