Are you looking for a luxury lipstick? Are you looking for a good creamy formula? Then look no further than the YSL Love Shine lipsticks. These are lovely and even though I hadn’t tried a YSL lipstick in years, I knew when I spotted these that I had to try it. The shade range is quite extensive, but 203 instantly stole my heart. Let’s give it a full review.
Fun fact about me: I used to LOVE YSL lipsticks. I had a few that I adored, but the shiny formulas were never my favorite. Now that I love a shiny, creamy, more sheer formula, I felt it was justified to revisit some YSL lipsticks and find out how much I like them. And these are stunning, available in 23 shades and come in a rich and creamy formula that feels like a balm, but has the intensity of a lipstick.
Review: Yves Saint Laurent Loveshine lipstick 203 Blushed Mallow
This being YSL, you’ll know that this is an expensive lipstick. I got mine with a voucher and during a sale, but still, it was a hefty price tag. At full price these retail for €49. That is an insane amount for any lipstick and that is why I only own just this one. You can buy these lipsticks from any retailer that stocks YSL. I got mine from Douglas.
What does this lipstick have to offer?
So knowing that I can enjoy a good YSL lipstick, I wasn’t sure about this at first glance. Sheer formulas have improved a lot these past few years though and I feel this is adding something new to the market. It is a sheer, but shiny lipstick that hydrates the lips like a balm. Yet, this is also longwearing: it doesn’t slide around all the time, but fades beautifully over the course of the 4 – 5 hours this lasts on your lips.
What does this look like in a swatch?
Swatched on the back of my hand, you can clearly see how sheer and shiny this is. I went with shade 203 because it seemed like the perfect mauve shade. It is a purple pink with a hint of brown, which suits me very well. I think this can also be pretty if you prefer cool tones as the purple makes this very wearable for people with a cool undertone. The sheer formula means it will look different on any lip color too.
What does this look like on the lips?
Wearing this, I like to apply it quite full on. But that’s the beauty of this lipstick: apply one layer for a sheer wash of color, apply 2 – 3 layers for more opacity. I have pretty pigmented lips myself, so that always skews sheerer lip products, but I feel this looks great. It is a true my lips but better color and therefore it goes with nearly any makeup look I wear.
Should you buy the YSL Loveshine lipstick?
I think this YSL Loveshine lipstick is a beautiful product. I love wearing this full on with or without lip liner and with any look I do. I do feel it looks best with a more intense eye though. I love the formula, I love the wear time and I love the shade. I just don’t love the price point. But if you are looking for a good product to treat yourself, then this may be worth the splurge.
