Earlier this year Rare Beauty launched a longawaited product. At least it was longawaited by me, because I love me the Soft Pinch liquid blushes by the brand. I have shades Hope and Encourage and I love both. So when they decided to do a product that fit within that range I knew I wanted to try it. There was only one problem: it’s a contour. And I don’t use contour. But then the reviews came in and many people were upset about this not being cool toned enough and then I knew: I just found myself a new favorite liquid bronzer. Let’s review the Soft Pinch Liquid Contour.

I mean, this product has so much going for it, so I was sad to see so many people disliking it. It comes in 7 shades which is very inclusive, but the shade Gentle, which is described by the brand as a cool taupe perfect for fair skin was far too warm toned for many people. And to me that seems strange now that I have the product in. From the bottle alone I can tell this isn’t grey toned and that’s what many people were hoping for. However, I feel that if I just take this shade for what it is, it is still beautiful I just use it in a different way.
Review: Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Contour in Gentle
This product retails for €32 which is an okay price point. Like with the liquid blushes this comes with heaps of product: at nearly 15 mls this product will last you a life time. Most standard liquid products come with 5 – 10 mls for cheek products like this, so this is a very generous serving and I feel it goes with the price point. You just get a lot of bang fo your buck.
What does this product have to offer?

As you can see this is a great liquid formula. Indeed similar to the blushes which means it is pigmented but blendable and very natural once applied. What goes wrong here is the name of the product. If they had called it a bronzer, it wouldn’t have gotten as much flack. This truly is promoted as a product to sculpt and create shadows and sadly that is not what this does for many people. So is this a beautiful product that wears a long time, is easy to apply, and looks natural on? Yes, but I can understand why people felt misled.
What does it look like in a swatch?

But you can see instantly as you look at the bottle and swatch this that this has a warm undertone. Rare Beauty as a brand runs very warm toned, so if you have cool toned skin this is a good thing to be aware of. As someone with neutral to cool toned skin I feel finding products that are actually cool toned can be quite challenging, but I have come to love products promoted as contours as bronzers for my skin tone and this works just as well. You can see here how pigmented is, the beautiful glow AND that is sheers out beautifully, so let’s apply it to the face.
What does it look like on the cheeks?

So all limitations aside, I feel this looks beautiful on the skin. It is subtle, the right shade and depth (provided I use it as bronzer, not a contour) and it lasts all day. So what else do you want? Sometimes I wish we could keep using our brains, rather than by going what we are told. Because if you put 2 and 2 together, you could see quite easily that this can work in other ways than just a contour. Is it a contour? No. Is it an absolutely stunning bronzer for people with fair skin that isn’t muddy or orange? Absolutely yes. And that is a perspective I haven’t heard people discuss yet.
Should you buy the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Contour?

Provided you can look past the name of the product and are willing to use it as bronzer: Yes, this is totally worth it. You get lots of product, the shade is gorgeous on and this is so so easy to apply. I love the way this looks, goes on and how it sits on the skin. Great for summer time and just a touch of warmth to blend my complexion and make me look alive and kicking. So yes, I love my Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Contour and I think you might too!
