Essence Baby Got highlighter stick review

The Essence Baby Got line is nothing new to the Essence makeup offering. They already did bronzer and blushes in both sticks and liquids, but did you know the range also offers highlighters. I was not that impressed with the Holo stick they did last year as it was too dark for my complexion, but the liquid highlighter in Sassy in Silk was very successful for me. Let’s see how I fare with the Baby Got Glaze and Baby Got Diamond highlighter stick.

So essentially these two highlighter sticks are continuations of this cream stick line. Baby Got Glaze is supposed to give a glass like finish, while Baby Got Diamond is more sparkly. Potentially that can be very pretty, but in my experience these Essence sticks feel very cheap as the plastic is thin and the packaging doesn’t feel very sturdy. They are itty bitty though and therefore great for a travel makeup bag. Let’s review them!

Review: Essence Baby Got Glaze & Baby Got Diamond highlighter stick

This being Essence we know the drill by now: yes these are afforable and for how good these are they are an absolutely steal at just €3.49. Because yes, these are good and both are dupes for much more expensive products. The Baby Got Glaze reminds me of the Glossier Haloscope in Quartz and the Baby Got Diamond reminds me of Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb in How Many Carats. I love and own both of those already so no need to keep these around. However, if you want the look at a budget, this can be a great product to look into.

What do these sticks have to offer?

Both of these are of course cream stick highlighters. They need a bit of warming up on the back of your hand or on your finger tips to get them to apply but when you do that it looks stunning. Essence Baby Got Glaze is essentially a glass like effect highlighter: it is sheer, transparent and adds that lit from within healthy glowy look. It looks almost wet in the right lighting. Essence Baby Got Diamond also has a sheer base, but this has the addition of silver sparkle for if you want to go for a more intense look, but withouth making you look like a discoball.

What do these look like in a swatch?

Swatched out on the back of my hand you can barely see the Baby Got Glaze but that is its powder. It is very transparent and only when the light hits your face just right does it show up as a highlight. It is for all the lovers of a more subtle look. Baby Got Diamond is more obvious as you can see and where it looks very glittery in a full on finger swatch, it is much more subtle on the cheeks as you can see below.

What do these look like on the skin?

So here are both highlighters on my unfiltered skin with pictures taken in natural daylight. The Baby Got Glaze is on top and adds the most subtle of sheens. Baby Got Diamond is at the bottom and is a bit more impactful but no noticeable shimmer. I would prefer to wear Baby Got Diamond in the festive season as the low light situations in winter will make this product truly stand out. Both are non-sticky once they settle down onto the skin and they last all day.

Should you buy the Essence Baby Got highlighter sticks?

I think both of these highlighters are beautiful. They definitely give you the same look as much more expensive products at very affordable price point. I have two issues with these: it is incredibly cheap and flimsy packaging and there isn’t a whole lot of product here. So while this may seem cheap with everyday use you could potentially run out soon. But the shades and performance are both beautiful and they are definitely worth it if you want to give them a whirl.
