Today’s review is for the Catice Glam in Gold primer. This is promised to be a hydrating primer, it has flecks of gold in and therefore it intrigued me. Is this something that will work for my dry skin? Or is this something that isn’t quite right for my sensitive skin? Will this even do anything that my skincare doesn’t already do? Let’s find out together.

So this is Catrice’s newest primer offering in their Spring/ Summer 2025 collection update. I feel that Catrice has done a primer like this before, it just seems to be renamed and now has specks of gold in. At least that’s my suspicion. So let’s find out how new this actually is and whether the gold flecks add anything to how this primer does its job.
Review: Catrice Glam in Gold Hydrating primer
This primer comes with 30 mls of product which is quite standard for any primer on the market. It costs €7, which is alright for this being Catrice, but it is more on the higher end of what the brand usually offers. It does come in pretty glass packaging that feels much more luxurious than you might expect for this price point. So this product gives you a luxury feel at a drugstore price point.
What does this product have to offer?

This primer is promising to be a hydrating product. It is said to be enriched with real 24K gold that dissolve when applied but that should help give you a natural glow. It has a lightweight texture that contains hyaluronic acid for a longlasting level of hydration. This is recommended to be used by all skin types.
What does this look like in the swatch?

So to the question: do the golden flecks actually show, the answer is yes. They don’t dissolve that easily though. They can get stuck to your skin which looks a bit weird, but with a bit of extra attention it does rub in and there is no glitter effect to this. Just a very thin, watery formula that adds some hydrationg.
And that’s where this primer is lacking for me. This is simply too thin for it to work on my dry skin. I am better off applying a good skincare routine than this product to make my makeup last. It feels weirdly drying as it settles down and that is a sensation I have not loved for a while.
What does this look like on the face?

Here you can see what the primer looks like on the face. Can’t tell a difference between the picture on the left (before) and the right (after) than you’d be right. That is no difference. The product is very thin. It isn’t blurring, it just feels fresh and hydrating on the skin, but once this product is absorbed by the skin this no longer has any visible effect. I had hoped it would add a glowy look, but it really doesn’t.
Should you buy the Catrice Glam in Gold primer?

Is this a bad product? Not at all, it definitely gets the job done. But if you are a primer sceptic and don’t see the need, this is not the product that will sway you. Because while it does add another layer, it seems a bit useless to me. If you have your skincare prep down, you will not be needing to add this one to your makeup routine. However, if you want an extra hydrating step in between your skincare and your makeup because for instance you left a lot of time between those steps this can be a refresh, but it has no purpose beyond that.
