Catrice Soft Glam Filter Stick review

One of the more exciting new releases from Catrice is the Soft Glam Filter Stick. They already released the Soft Glam Filter Fluid last year and now they do it in a stick form. The original version of the product duped Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter and when that came out in a stick form, it wasn’t well-received. Will the Catrice stick version work better?

In this review I will be focusing on two shades: 010 Fair/ Light & 020 Light/ Medium. There are 9 shades in total, which isn’t much. I first got 020, but figured it would be too dark for me. So I got 010 instead when it came back in stock. It works better but I still feel it is a too yellow for me. It also isn’t quite what I had expected. Let me explain.

Review: Catrice Soft Glam Filter Stick 010 Fair/ Light & 020 Light/ Medium

The Soft Glam Filter stick is very reasonably priced at €5 a pop. This is called a glow booster and it is supposedly capable of three things: it should highlight, prime or act as a foundation, much like the original. If it does end up being capable of all those things, then €5 is a huge steal. However, sadly, to me it doesn’t quite work and I will be sticking with the liquid version instead. Here’s why.

What does this product have to offer?

So the claims on this are quite magnificent. My first qualm with it is how little product you get. The stick is tiny and I feel you get much more products in the liquid version. So this isn’t even a very good value for money. It should blend easily, give a subtle glow and have skincare properties. This should give you light coverage and can be used instead of foundation, a targeted highlight or as an all-over glow.

What does it look like in a swatch?

In this picture you can see the difference between 010 and 020. There is one shade lighter available, but the issue I have with these isn’t the depth but the undertones. Both shades are so yellow. They have a subtle glow, but it wouldn’t be enough for a highlighter. Yes it feels very buttery and creamy going on, but the coverage just isn’t there. This even feels a bit oily and patchy on my skin and I have dry skin.

What does it look like on the face?

So while I love a dewy look, I feel this looks a bit too greasy for my liking. It feels greasy too, especially when you keep using it. It just feels like it never quite settles down. Powder doesn’t sit well on top of it and it doesn’t pair well with other products at all. I feel it doesn’t apply evenly enough to work as a foundation and while the glow does help to perfect the skin, it doesn’t really add much coverage at all. Overall, this is just a bit of a miss for me.

Should you buy the Catrice Soft Glam Filter Stick?

While I loved the fluid version of this product and love it for a no makeup makeup look, this one isn’t the same for me. It doesn’t look right on my skin, it feels like it slides around and never quite gels with my skin. I don’t love how products apply on top of it and even on dry skin I feel it wears down very quickly. Yes it is pretty but as a highlighter I find this too much of a faff to use. This can still be great for some, but it’s just wasn’t quite right for me. So this is no from me.
