MAC Hyper Real SkinCanvas Balm review

The MAC Hyper Real skincare line was launched as part of the full package you can get from the brand. Designed so you can do a true full face with nothing but MAC, this skincare line sounded like something I would like. When I found out they do travel sizes I decided to bite the bullet because this is an expensive product.

This product is a moisturizer that should help improve the skin barrier and be great as a base underneath makeup as well. It has strenghtening and soothing properties that should help combat irritation while giving a healthy glow. But how much did I like it?

Review: MAC Hyper Real Fresh SkinCanvas Balm moisturizing cream

This product is a rather thick cream that has a balm like quality to it. It is rich and creamy but it is absorbed easily too. This small 15 ml tub retails for €34. A full jar at 50 ml costs €67. So this is quite an expensive product and while I loved it, just not worth it to be buying a larger jar. Because of the thicker formula this is very easy to use up quickly and at this price point it’s just not worth it.

What are the ingredients like?

This is the ingredient list available on the website:

Water\Aqua\Eau, Propanediol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric/Myristic/Stearic Triglyceride, Niacinamide, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate, Peg-100 Stearate, Trehalose, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Squalane, Ethylhexylglycerin, Cholesterol, Sodium Rna, Ceramide Ng, Acetyl Glucosamine, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Isononyl Isononanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Caprylyl Glycol, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Paeonia Albiflora Flower Extract, Crithmum Maritimum Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Laminaria Digitata Extract, Algae Extract, Hordeum Distichon (Barley) Extract\Extrait D’Orge À Deux Rangs, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Extract, Sigesbeckia Orientalis (St. Paul’S Wort) Extract, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Canola Oil\Huile De Colza, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Caffeine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sorbitan Isostearate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Polysorbate 60, Hexylene Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance (Parfum), Linalool, Limonene, Benzyl Salicylate, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tetrasodium Edta, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Chlorphenesin, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891) ILN99085

And this contains some of my favorite ingredients. Niacinamide is high up on the list as are several oils and butters. This must be why this worked for me very well. It nourished my skin and my skin felt great while using this. But I get a similar effect with moisturizers far cheaper than this. I still swear by my La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5 Baume: same effect and a fraction of the cost.
