Rare Beauty Soft Pinch blush review

When you love a product by a brand you want to try it in many different shades. The first Soft Pinch liquid blush by Rare Beauty I tried wasn’t Hope or Encourage. Those I tested out later. No, the first one I tried was this one: Grace. A super pretty cooler tone berry pink that I though would be stunning on my fair skin. And it was. But this is a different formula to the dewy formula I would fall in love with. Let me explain.

Over time Rare Beauty extended the shade range of the Soft Pinch blushes. This now comes in 13 shades and there are two formulas: dewy and matte. Grace is described as a bright rose mauve and it certainly is. It is a great shade for my fair skin. But it is also one of the few matte shades in the range and for some reason it doesn’t quite work as well for me as the dewy version.

Review: Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush Matte in Grace

No matter what formula of the Soft Pinch blushes you get you will pay the same amount of money for them. They come with a lot of product so even though they are €31 you just know you get a bang for your buck. I think you could easily use this every day of your life and it will still last 2 years for it to be used up completely.

What does this blush have to offer?

Rare Beauty describes these blushes as weightless and long-lasting. It should blend easily and build up for a natural looking flush. But especially in the blendability of this, I felt this product was lacking. I also prefer a more dewy finish to my blushes by now, so this was just a bit too matte for my liking in the end. Is this still a good product? For sure and I love the shade on me. I just found it much too difficult to work with. If I could find this as a mini I might still add it to my collection.

As you can see on the back of my hand: the shade is great. I love this purple leaning pink. It is a great cool tone and Rare Beauty is a brand that normally doesn’t do much cool toned stuff. So for the brand it is quite unique, but I could not work with this. You can already see on the back of my hand that this looks quite patchy and sadly that’s also what it looked like on the cheeks.

Again, is this a beautiful shade? Yes. So why did I declutter this the first chance I got? Because it was a pain to blend and make it look even. A problem I don’t have with the dewy version of the same product, so I am guessing is the matte finish that is making the difference. And yes I somehow activated the blurring filter on my camera when I took these images, but you can still see the effect this blush has.

Should you buy the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch blushes?

Despite not loving this formula, I do still love the two I do still have. Grace being a matte meant it went on patchy and I had very little time to work with it as it dried down instantly. It just isn’t easy to use and life is too short to be dealing with that especially if you have and try out as much makeup as I do in a given year. So is this pretty? Yes. But the formula is what sets this one back for me.
