Charlotte Tilbury Pop Shot eyeshadow review

This review is at least 2 years in the making! Why? Because I bought these Charlotte Tilbury Pop Shot eyeshadows when they first launched two years ago only to miss the window for giving them a proper review. And this being a limited edition product at the time meant I felt I wouldn’t get to grace them with a proper review. But they were brought back for the holiday season this year. So let’s give them that review.

With the relaunch of this product I believe the shade range was also extended. I believe there were 4 originally and now there are 8. I opted for two: a taupe cool tone called Smokey Quartz and a blue/ purple duochrome called Cosmic Rocks. And guess what?! By now I only still own one of them as these really aren’t all that special. Let me explain.

Review: Charlotte Tilbury Hypnotising Pop Shot eyeshadow in Smokey Quartz & Cosmic Rocks

The reason why these Pop Shot eyeshadows aren’t all that special is the price point. These retail for €30 a pop which is a lot of money for a tiny single shadow. It does come with a standard 1.2 grams of shadow which is okay, but I have tried indie and K-beauty shadows that are far cheaper than this that are far more impactful. You are better off buying a Clionadh single or for instance a sparkly K-beauty number that can be even cheaper for a similar effect. Your best bet buying these is the official Charlotte Tilbury website.

What do these eyeshadows have to offer?

But boy are these pretty shadows?! Yes indeed. They may be expensive, but the packaging is really cute with the faux gem detail and the formula is quite smooth. I believe that these also have some special formula to make them extra sparkly. These do feel different: each shade seems to have a slightly different formula. The taupe shade is far more smooth and easy to apply than Cosmic Rocks. The latter can be a bit patchy and needs quite a lot of building up for the duochrome to show up.

What is the formula like?

In terms of formula I cannot fault them though. They are solid shadows, but seeing I own palettes that cost me about this price point with excellent quality you have to wonder whether the price point should be this expensive for a single shadow. I mean if you were to ask me, you are better of paying a bit more for a Victoria Beckham Lid Lustre. Those are permanent and come in heaps of shades and have a far more supreme formula.

How do these apply to the lids?

And the comparison to the Victoria Beckham shadows doesn’t end there. In terms of longevity I also feel the VB shades are superior. These are weirdly emolient so while they look super sparkly for the first few hours they do have a tendency to crease with a full day of wear. Again, the duochrome shade more so than the neutral as that needed an extra layer for it to show up. So guess which one I already decluttered? Yes that pretty duochrome one.

Should you buy the Charlotte Tilbury Pop Shot eyeshadow?

As stunning as these are I don’t think these are anything special. I mainly kept one around for the pretty packaging, but the formula and the price point have really made me hold back in terms of wanting to get more of these. So if you were eyeing these up now that they are back, maybe give it another think and see if you can find a single in another way that you might like just as much that will not cost as much money.
