How many lip oils does one need? That is a great question to ask. Not many in my opinion. But hey when the lip oil hype was in full swing last year I had a few on my wishlist and one I bought was the Hauslabs PhD Hybrid lip oil. Is this any good? Or can you simply buy one of the cheaper alternatives. Let’s find out!

This Hauslabs lip oil is available in 5 shades. I got mine from Sephora in the UK. But by now Hauslabs has been rolled out in most Sephoras in Europe as well. So that makes it a lot easier to buy for many people.
Review: Hauslabs PhD Hybrid Lip Oil in Tint
At €25 this is a pricey product though. Especially for what it is. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a pricey product and I definitely think that if you are willing to pay a bit more money when it comes to most lip products you often get better quality products. But lip oils isn’t one of them. I have found lip oils that are just as good as these high end versions at a fraction of the cost.
What does this have to offer?

But I will get to that in a sec. What I like about the Hauslabs lip oil is that it has a wide doe foot applicator. This means you can apply the product with one swipe. You can wear it by itself (my preferred way) or you can pair it with lip liners or over a lipstick. This is supposed to be nourishing for your lips so as you wear it it should hydrate your lips more and more over time.
What does this look like in a swatch?

This lip tint is a sheer formula that leaves a hint of pink. It is thick and glossy but non sticky on the lips. It wears well but most of the shine and color wears off throughout the day. What’s left is a nourishing layer that makes your lips feel smooth and hydrated. The sheer pink this has does slightly stain your lips, but on me you can’t see much of a difference as I have quite pigmented lips naturally.
What does this look like on the lips?

The effect on the lips is pretty and natural. But here is the caveat: I also own a €4 lip oil from Catrice (from the Glossin’ Glow range) that is in an identical shade and just as nourishing as this is. At under a fifth of the price of this, I even tend to reach for my Catrice one more than this as the stain has a better effect on me. So if you had to ask me I would opt for the Catrice instead of the Hauslabs.
Should you buy the Hauslabs Lip Oil?

As pretty as this is and how lovely as it feels I feel this formula isn’t anything special. It was one of the first Hauslabs products I tried but it has taken me over a year to review it as I just felt this wasn’t worth gracing with a review. Yes it’s a good product so if you don’t mind paying €25 for something like this than go ahead I am sure you will love it but there are far cheaper alternatives out there that get the job done for a lot less money.
