Catrice Aqua Splash Grip primer review

The minute I spotted this primer I knew that Catrice was attempting to be the next brand to dupe the Milk Makeup Hydrogrip primer. I already tried the ELF version as well as the Essence one and today we are testing out the Catrice version. Does it do the same thing? Is it as good as the original or is this a unique product of its own accord?

That Catrice can do a good primer is no secret. I have tried and loved many of them. Sadly they don’t tend to stick around. The Catrice primer offerings are as changeable as the weather which means that you can usually only buy them for one season before they are discontinued. However, I keep trying them and if this can live up to the infamous (yet discontinued) Fresh It Up primer I just know it will be a great one.

Review: Catrice Aqua Splash Grip Hydrating primer

One reason why I love trying Catrice primers is how affordable they are. At just €4.95 this is an absolute bargain for any primer and I think Catrice shows that good makeup doesn’t have to be expensive. The product is only available in Europe for now though and I don’t know when it will get a larger release.

What does this product have to offer?

This primer is essentially a clear silicone free primer. It is hydrating while also gripping onto makeup and making it last. There are some skincare like ingredients like niacinamide, cucumber extract and hyaluronic acid. The gel texture is great for any skin type while being great for daily use.

As you can see here the primer has a sheer quality to it. There is a slight glow but once you work this into the skin it disappears completely. Therefore it is a great allrounder base product. I wouldn’t use this by itself as you do need a proper skincare routine with at least an SPF as this isn’t hydrating by itself. However, if you have dry skin like me, all the little bits help especially in fall/ winter.

Since this is a transparent product once it goes on (it doesn’t stay blue), you cannot see it going on. This doesn’t fill in pores or alter the appearance of you skin one bit. It just means that you get a clear base layer that sits well under makeup and makes it last. Those are my favorite types of primers: undetectable on the skin, but effective in what I want it to do.

Should you buy the Catrice Aqua Splash Grip primer?

What I love about this primer is that it just gets the job done. It has that grippy quality I love about the Milk Makeup primer but without the price point. It lasts, hydrates and my skin feels great when I use it. There are no downsides here, as this is one of the best primers Catrice has ever done. Here’s to hoping they keep it in their regular liner up.
