Has Essence done something the cool toned crowd has been asking for for years? It certainly seems to be the case because their new Baby Got Bronze liquid bronzer is one of the most cool toned bronzers I have ever used. But besides a unique shade, is it any good? That’s what this review is all about.
In total this bronzer is available in 5 shades. Shade 10 Sweet Shadows is the lightest one and it is quite possibly the greyest bronzer I have ever found. For most people this will be a contour. But since I love using contours for bronzers, I felt this could still work. But the shade takes some getting used to. I am just so used to so many bronzers being orange on me that something this cool toned just throws me off.

We need to start at the beginning and discuss the price point. This being Essence we know this is going to be affordable. At just €3.70 this is a definite steal. It fits into the rest of the Baby Got… liquid range. There are blushes, there are highlighters and part of me knew we would probably get bronzers next. And we did! I got mine through Boozyshop but this is out now everywhere in the EU that sells Essence.
What does this product do?
In keeping with the other liquid Baby Got… products this comes in a squeezy tube that can lock in place by twisting it. When you squeeze it out the product comes out of a little hole that is surrounded by a cushion. I feel the cushion is a bit superfluous as it is hard and doesn’t do much, but it does make this an obvious dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour wand. This product promises to bronze up the face, but still look natural. It says it can double as a contour as well.
What is the swatch like?
This product is thin, blendable and easy to use. It is difficult to use too much provided you squeeze some out on the back of your hand before applying. The shade is one of the lightest and greyest bronzers I have ever found. At first this even looks wrong on me, but when I keep blending it actually looks very natural. It stays put, dries down and isn’t too glowy, but it is the shade that sets this apart.
What does it look like on the face?
On the face this is one of the easiest to use liquid bronzers I have tried. They can get messy but this is easy to pick up with a brush from the back of your hand and blend it. At first this looks crazy but as you buff it in, the tone really blends with my skin and it looks very natural. I think in the winter time when I am at my palest this is going to be a game changer. Because the thin, blendable formula, combined with the super cool toned shade, makes this one of the best bronzers for the winter time for me.
Should you buy the Essence Baby Got Bronze liquid bronzer?
With 5 shades available, Essence is definitely attempting to be more inclusive. I don’t know what the deeper shades are like or if they truly are good for deep skin tones. For my fair skin, the lightest shade is definitely the best shade match in the bunch and for most people this will just be a contour. For me, this is great as a bronzer, but the shade is so different from all bronzers I have tried that I definitely had to get used to seeing this on my face.
