Rare Beauty Powder Blush review

We all know I love a good Rare Beauty blush. Their liquid and cream blushes are some of my favorites. What’s more: one of the liquid blushes I own is in the same shade as this powder blush. It’s in the shade Hope and it is my favorite Rare Beauty blush. But will it work just as well in a powder format? That is what we’re here today to find out.

In total this blush comes in 6 shades. The shade names correspond with liquid blushes already in the collection. This seems to suggest that this blush cannot only be worn by itself but also used as a topper. I own Hope which is described on the website as a nude mauve. It was the only one that looked like it could be right for my skin tone as Rare Beauty is notoriously warm leaning in their offerings.

Review: Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Luminous Power blush in Hope

Rare Beauty products do not come cheap. With only 2.8 grams of product for €29 this is quite steeply priced. The price is normal for most high end blushes but the amount of products is nearly half of what you get in most blushes. Another downside is the fact that these can break easily. I opted for buying mine in store when I was in the UK (from Space NK) as I had seen many people receive shattered blushes when ordered online.

What does this product offer to do?

Let me not beat about the bush: this blush is amazing and I have been reaching for it non-stop ever since I started using it. This blush promises to be a blend of the liquid blush with the powder highlighter. So this is supposed to be glowy and I love it. It is smooth and super easy to blend. Despite the sheer swatch it definitely applies well with a brush.

What does it look like in a swatch?

Yes the swatch is sheer but this is the kind of blush formula that is best applied with a brush. Finger swatches just don’t do it justice. It is glowy, sheers out beautifully and yet the mauve undertone definitely shines through. The result is a warm toned mauve though as there is definitely some peach in this shade, but on my it is that perfect warm nude tone that goes with everything.

What does this look like on the cheeks?

On the cheeks this blush adds warmth and a very natural looking flush. Despite the base being the same as their powder highlighter, I don’t find this too glowy for a blush at all. The glow mainly makes it look healthy and natural and I love how the shade is very close to what my cheeks look like when I flush in real life. The easy blendability means a little goes a long way but you can keep swirling this around for a soft look. The soft texture does mean this has some quick up and your blush brush will leave marks in the powder.

Should you buy the Rare Beauty powder blush?

I think this blush is a great one, but Rare Beauty as a brand is only accessible online for many people and with so many of these breaking in transit it may not be worth it. If you can find it and buy it in store that would definitely be my recommendation. Don’t judge it by the finger swatch, because this looks the best when applied and shade wise this was far more successful for me than I thought it would be.
