What is a new Essence collection without a new primer? This time it comes in a stick and it is actually part of the skincare range. Say hello to the Essence Hydrating Serum Stick. Is this any good?

So far this is the only product of its kind. Would this be good enough to function as skincare? Maybe, because Essence is targeted at teenagers and early 20s people, so it may be good enough for some. For me though it isn’t so I decided to test this out under makeup as a priming step and it worked remarkably well.
Review: Essence Hello Good Stuff 48 H Hydrating Serum Stick
At just €4.95 this is as affordable as we’re used to from Essence. The stick looks well made and feels sturdy (which cannot be said of other Essence products). This very much reminds me of Milk Makeup style wise but I don’t think this is a straight up dupe.
What does this product have to offer?

This stick promises to contain hyaluronic acid and cucumber which gives it its skincare like properties. That said, this isn’t a great skincare product. Once this dries down it becomes a little bit tacky so I wouldn’t wear this without anything else on top. That’s why I decided to try it under makeup and it makes for a great lightweight primer that makes sure your makeup doesn’t budge.
What does this look like in the swatch?

Visually this isn’t an interesting primer. This doesn’t add glow, nor does it truly hydrate the skin. For the most part it feels to me that it just acts as a barrier between your skin and the makeup you put on top. It feels refreshing though when it goes on: it has a slight cooling sensation when using this straight from the stick.
How does this product work?

The best way to apply this I have found is straight from the stick. I just rub this all over and then use my hands to even out the layer all over my face. This gets the most even application and you can see a slight hint of shine. The tacky base it creates is great for applying foundation on top and on my dry skin it never accentuated dry patches, made my skin feel tight or messed with the foundation and concealer on top.
Should you buy the Essence Hydrating Serum Stick?

This is definitely a good product from Essence but I also feel it is a touch gimmicky. Not sure why I feel that way but I just don’t think we need a primer in a stick. Is it easy to apply? Sure but just as easy as any liquid primer would be. So that doesn’t give it any advantage. Since this is a stick it may be better for those who travel frequently, but other than that I cannot think of any stand out properties other than the fact that this is just a good primer if that’s what you are looking for and you like the stick format.
