One of my favorite K-beauty brands? Romand. I have loved their lipstains, I have loved their eyeshadow and now I can add their Bare Water Cushion to the list. This has a lot going for it: it’s a great formula, it’s a great shade match and it wears really well as well. Here is my review.
As per usual this K-beauty foundation comes in a limited shade range. That is sadly the case with a lot of K-beauty products, but I don’t think Romand is necessarily marketing themselves outside of Asia. So that kind of makes sense. This is available in 5 shades. 02 Pure 21 is not the lightest one: there is one even lighter than this, but it definitely has the right undertone.
Review: Romand Bare Water Cushion foundation 02 Pure 21
Romand is pretty much a midrange priced beauty brand. I find their prices very similar to a Maybelline or L’Oreal here in The Netherlands. So not too expensive but also not super cheap. At €17 this is a good one, but this doesn’t come with the extra compact that other K-beauty brands do offer. And cushion foundation can run out quickly. However, the brand does sell refills at a slightly less expensive price. For €11 you can easily pick up a refill without the compact.
What does this foundation have to offer?
I already knew I liked Romand but I of course wasn’t sure how much I would like this. But this has blown by socks off. First there is the sheer but buildable coverage. Then there is a dewy but not overly glossy finish. Next there is the shade match and finally: this has a cooling effect when you apply it. Such a great feature for the warmer day. The goal of this cushion is to retain moisture and to keep you hydrated and that is definitely the case.
What is the shade match like?
Ta-dah! Can you even detect that I am wearing anything here? Where most foundations pull too yellow on me, this shade #02 Pure 21 is pretty much my skin tone. This range comes in three yellow tones and two pink tones. The lightest two have the pink undertone and look at how good that shade match is. This is undetectable and it’s been a while since I found a shade match this good.

- #05 Sand 25: Warm neutral beige, suitable for skin tones over No.23
What is the coverage like?
While the formula on this is thin and glowy, I do still enjoy the coverage I get here. You can see my redness still shines through a little bit but that is nothing that a concealer can’t fix. I find it funny that in this picture it looks like this foundation is too light and too pink for me, but when I look at my neck, than this is definitely how like I actually am. This is why everyone thinks I am warm toned, even if I get shade matched in store.
Should you buy the Romand Bare Water Cushion foundation?
This is one that I definitely have clocked as a potential favorite out of all the K-beauty cushion foundations I am trying this year. I have 12 in total and this is number 5, so I still have plenty to try, but I am feeling this is going to be a contender for at least top 3.
I love the shade match, I love the formula, I love how this wears, I love the finish. Clearly this is just a product I love. So yes, Romand has done it again and this remain in the first top spot for me when it comes to being one of my favorite k-beauty brands.
