If there is a brand that I enjoy trying it’s Rare Beauty. They do some great formula product (often made in Korea, so that may be why I love them) and in some stunning shades as well. Whenever I want to feel effortless, I reach for Rare Beauty. But then the brand released their Silky Touch highlighters. And these are anything but subtle. Let’s review the Rare Beauty Positive Light Silky Touch highlighter in Enlighten.

Unlike the liquid version, this highlighter only comes in 4 shades. Since I already own the liquid version in Mesmerize and love it, I decided to go for a shade from the line that I felt might also work for may fair skin: Enlighten. It looks like a white in the pan but it has a very pretty luminous flash that is natural at first but can be built up to full intensity.
Review: Rare Beauty Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter in Enlighten
This highlighter retails for €29 which may not seem like too expensive given the Rare Beauty line but this only comes with 2.8 grams of product. Of course this is lightweight in texture but not so lightweight that is warrants giving us nearly half of what most highlighters come with. To top things off this thing is fragile and many people’s highlighters broke when they tried traveling with them.
What does this highlighter have to offer?

However that doesn’t mean that this isn’t a beautiful product. This is very finely milled and indeed feels like silk when you swatch it. This is supposed to give a glass like effect that lasts all day. Fun fact, this highlighter is also recommended for use around the eyes so if you want to amp up an eye look, you can. However instructions for this is also: less is more because if you apply too much it will not longer look very natural on.
What does this look like in a swatch?

As you can see here the highlighter is very impactful in a full on finger swatch. This is intense and therefore a light hand is needed if you want this to look natural on the face. A fluffy brush is best for the most natural effect. Bonus points if you really manage to buff this into the skin because that will help you sheer this out and make it look its prettiest. It does last a long time though, which is a plus.
What does this look like on the face?

It is always difficult capturing highlighters on camera in a still image but you can clearly see the effect along my cheek bone here. You can see the sheen and this is when applying just the smallest amount. I mean dipping my brush in ever so slightly and leave it at that. So the fact this doesn’t come with as much product as most highlighters is probably not too terrible. As you really only need a little bit every time you use this.
Should you buy the Rare Beauty powder highlighter?

While this is a stunning product I don’t love this as much as I had expected. I think Rare Beauty is simply better at the liquid and cream cheek products than they are at powders. Yes this is stunning but you need quite the learning curve to figure out how to make this look its best and with the amount of highlighters on the market I don’t feel this is worth the effort or the price point for that matter.
