My love for K-beauty lip stains is no secret. But can Western makeup brands do them as well? That’s what we are trying to find out today. Because the Fenty Beauty Poutsicle is a lip stain formula that I thought looked interesting to try out. It comes in 6 fun shades and a hydrating formula to boot. So let’s review the Fenty Beauty Poutsicle lip stain.

As I mentioned the Fenty Beauty lip stain comes in 6 shades. I bought one in shade 03 Strawberry Sangria. I would describe it as a strawberry red. It starts off looking glossy but then wears down to leave a stain. With Fenty being a brand that is hit & miss for me, I was curious to see how much I would like this product.
Review: Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Lip Stain Strawberry Sangria
The Fenty Beauty Poutsicle lip stain is similarly priced as other Fenty Beauty products. At €26 this isn’t cheap and it is definitely more expensive than other lip stains I have tried. So for that price point I am expecting more as well. And while I love the color of this, I don’t love the formula.
What does this product have to offer?

The promise of this lip stain is that is hydrating and stays vibrant looking all day. It is supposed to go on like a gloss but then tint your lips that lasts all day. It features squalane and an oil-in-water formula and the shades are fun, popping, bright shades. This promises to be feather- and bleed resistant. It should feel the lips feeling hydrating and smooth and have sheer to medium coverage that you can manipulate to suit your look.
What does this look like in a swatch?

As promised this goes on glossy. It is fairly opaque but has a sheerness to it that you can build up. I do find that as you layer this up to full opacity this starts to feel weirdly sticky. Another issue I have with this is that is bleeds. And with a red like this, that isn’t a good look as you cannot keep a nice lip line. It also doesn’t wear down very evenly. It wears down patchy and doesn’t look great after a few drinks, let alone a bite to eat.
What does this look like on the lips?

So let’s go back to the positives for a minute: because isn’t this shade beautiful? I really love how juicy this red looks. The red shade combined with the glossy finish makes it look like a ripe watermelon that befits the name Strawberry Sangria. But as good as it looks: this look lasts about an hour before it starts to go downhill from there.
Should you buy the Fenty Beauty Poutsicle lip stain?

As beautiful as this is, I don’t love this as much as I had hoped. My K-beauty lip stains are still better than this is. The main issue is the formula and the fact that it just doesn’t last well.
This bleeds and feathers almost instantly and because it stains it is difficult to touch it up throughout the day. It wears down patchy and I wish that pretty glossy look would last longer.
Additionally, in order to get to this level of opacity will mess with the formula. It becomes sticky as it dries down and just doesn’t feel very comfortable. Just for the shade alone I am keeping this around, but it certainly doesn’t beat my K-beauty lip stains.
