A product I nearly forgot to review from all the new Essence and Catrice products that were launched for Spring/ Summer 2024 were the Catrice Deep Matte and High Gloss liquid eyeshadows. And forgetful they are, so that may be the reason why. Let me tell you why these aren’t that exciting.
This product is available in 5 colourful shades and a transaparent gloss. The only shades missing here are the orange and green shades, but those wouldn’t be shades that would suit me. So I decided to skip those. These seemed promising but after using them a few times I can say: do not buy these.

Let’s first discuss some positives about these products: they are affordable for sure. At around €4.50 a pop this really isn’t bad for a product like this. And they do work, but they just aren’t as good as they could have been. I had rather paid a bit more and have gotten a better formula.

High Gloss in Glossy Glam
Technically these are two different products. The Deep Matte liquid eyeshadow is supposed to create a great pastel look that is waterproof and longlasting. The purpose is to achieve a wash of color on the lid with a matte finish that blends easily and once dried down it should be budgeproof.
The High Gloss liquid eyeshadow is also supposed to be longwearing and non-sticky. The effect it promises to give is a glass like effect. It should have a smooth formula to add shine and gloss to your lids.
Application
The biggest let down of those promises is the wear time on these. The promise is that these are longwearing products but they are not. These crease very easily and you need quite a thick layer for the light shades to show up, so you can’t really combat it with primer either. The mattes have better lasting power with a good few hours. The gloss however does not and makes anything underneath it crease within 30 minutes of application.
These also aren’t easy to apply. The formula is quite thick as you can see in the swatch, which makes it difficult to get an even thin layer. Because that is the best way to use these: apply a thin layer, use a finger to tap in, wait for it to dry then apply the next layer until you achieve the desired result.
The Verdict
Not everything I try can be great and this is quite possibly one of the worst Catrice releases in some time. The shades are pretty but need so much building up for them to even show up on my fair skin that I don’t think many people will enjoy these. I like them as accents/ liners mostly now because if I don’t apply them to my crease, these last a lot better.
Perhaps if you don’t have hooded/ deepset eyes these products might work better for you, but for me they just weren’t quite it. The matte finish combined with the light color makes them look extra chalky and I feel they accentuated any texture on my lids as well. And the gloss made even a bigger mess of everything making everything slide around.
Great for a picture but not great for actual wear time.
