ELF Halo Glow Beauty Wand review

Whenever ELF releases a product that looks like it could be dupe for a high end product everyone in the online beauty community loses their marbles. But I have yet to see people give an honest review on just the products themselves. So here we go and have a look at three of the Halo Glow Beauty Wands in the contour, highlight and blush shades.

With ELF I feel they have really turned themselves in the go to dupe brands. However, just because the packaging looks similar doesn’t make something an automatic dupe. So the question is first of all: are these good products? And secondly are they coming close to the product they are obviously trying to dupe: the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wands.

Review: ELF Halo Glow Beauty Wand Contour, Blush & Highlight

ELF has slowly but surely become more widely available in recent years. They just launched in the Dutch drugstore but traditionally their prices are a little bit higher here compared to other brands. And that certainly goes for the Beauty Wands. These retail for €10 each.

Swatches

The three products I am showing you here are a contour in Fair/ Light, a highlight in Rose Quartz and a blush in Candlelit. All three are gorgeous but quite thin formulas. The sponge applicator for these is a bit small but it does work.

What I dislike most about this is how messy it gets. Many of these wands have a lock to click the tube shut so no product can leak into the sponge when you store it or carry it around. Not with this. This just oozes out indefinitely once you’ve opened them.

What I like about these shades is that they are very much fair skin friendly. The shades are light and the thin texture makes them very easy to blend. However, in my experience I need a lot of product to really have it show up as it tend to blend away too quickly.

The contour is my least favorite: while it is light and cool toned enough to be an actual contour, I feel it looks muddy every time I wear it. The highlight is pretty but I prefer the Catrice and Charlotte Tilbury versions I have: this doesn’t have much impact. My favorite one has to be the blush but the shade is so generic that I didn’t find it worth the money.

Worth a purchase?

Are the ELF Halo Glow Beauty Wands worth a purchase? While I get the hype these get, I don’t think I feel these really add anything to my makeup collection I didn’t already own. It’s not as if ELF is the first brand to do a dupe of this product as both Catrice and Kiko have done them before and the Catrice ones have certainly been cheaper than these elf ones.

Additionally I think these are mainly a dupe in looks only. Yes the packaging is similar to the Charlotte Tilbury wands but these are nothing like the shades or formula those products have. I feel the ELF version lacks the impact and to create the desired effect you need a lot of product.

And with how much product you need, combined with the fact that these could dry out due there being no lock and you getting less product than in the original and you may have a beautiful product, but if it means you have to repurchase it 3x within the time it takes you to use up one Charlotte Tilbury wand, you may be better off buying the original instead.
