It is time for the final Essence review with the new Spring/ Summer 2024 collection products. This review is for the Jelly Grip primer which as you can see seems to be a straight up dupe of the Milk Makeup Hydrogrip primer and the ELF Power Grip primer. Let’s see how good this product works.

This is not the first time Essence did a Jelly Grip primer. Previously there was a pink version of this which I haven’t tried. So I can’t speak as to how this compares to the pink Essence Jelly Grip. However, I have tried both the Milk Makeup (it’s a favorite) and the ELF (it made my sensitive skin flare up), so I will compare it to that along the way as well.
Review: Essence Jelly Grip Hydrating primer
Compared to the other two options, this is by far the cheapest option. At just €3.99 Essence proves once again that they can still do makeup that doesn’t break the bank. They are by far one of the more affordable brands on the market today so if you are looking for good but cheap makeup, Essence can still help you out.
What does this product have to offer?

This product comes with a handy pump in quite cheap feeling packaging, but the product inside performs well. This promises to make your makeup longwearing. It has a tacky formula that starts off feeling line a jelly but quickly bursts into a more watery substance that is easily absorbed by the skin. While the product looks green in the tube, this product is in fact transparent.
What does this product look like in a swatch?

This is a bit thinner I find than the original Milk Makeup Formula. The ELF is closer to the Milk Makeup in terms of how the formula feels, but since my skin did not like that product at all (it me itchy, red and I had bumps after using it), I like the Essence better as a dupe. In terms of how it works, I feel the Essence performs as well as the Milk Makeup in terms of how well it makes my makeup last.
What does this look like on the skin?

The day I took these pictures I had a flare up due to some medication, hence the super rosy cheeks. But as you can see here the product is undetectable on the skin. There is nothing too glowy or too matte about my skin in these before and after pictures. It just functions as a transparent base that will make your makeup easier to apply (just make sure you wait till it dries down) and to make it last longer. And it delivers on both of those points.
Should you buy the Essence Jelly Grip primer?

I think this is a great primer that doesn’t accentuate dryness, makes my makeup last and my makeup applies beautifully on top. Therefore I would recommend you try this if you can get your hands on it. I will try to film a short in the next couple week where I swatch it against the Milk Makeup and the ELF Hydrogrip for those people who are interested.
