When I started trying makeup by Dutch drugstore brand Kruidvat I didn’t have high expectations. But upon my first impression I found a few products that stood out. One such product? The Beauty Flash Illuminating Strobing Cream. This primer was a nice surprise and here’s why.

To my surprise this product feels and performs similarly to the MAC Strobing cream. I feel this performs in a same way but at a fraction of the price. It sits on the skin in a similar way. It is a little less moisturizing but the effect is the same the way it applies and how it makes my makeup wear.
Review: Kruidvat Beauty Flash Illuminating Strobing Cream primer
It is definitely a cheap and cheerful product: at only €4.99 this product has 30 mls and that is a great price for a primer that promises you to do a lot in one go. It doesn’t quite deliver on all of them, but it certainly does do a good job on most of them.
What does this primer do?

Overall this primer promises to do three things: it should prime the skin and make makeup last longer. Then it should be illuminating and therefore leave the skin looking glowy and it should moisturizing. So this is a 3-in-1 product at a very affordable price point.
How does this primer swatch?

The promise this product delivers on the least is the glow. Yes there is some, but it is not as glowy as I had hoped. It is quite thick and I need a lot of product to cover my entire face. However, I have used this on days where I didn’t put on moisturizer and this still makes my foundation look good. It also makes my foundation last. So it delivers on two of the three functionalities quite well.
What does this look like on the face?

Here you can see what this primer does on the skin. And if you’re thinking: I am not seeing anything, that’s exactly what I mean with this not being as glowy as I’d want to. It has a nice peachy pink hue but I feel the shine doesn’t really translate once this sheers out. There is no visible trace of this once you apply it and I apply 2.5 – 3 pumps of this every time. It does make my makeup last though and that’s what matters most.
Should you buy the Kruidvat Beauty Flash primer?

I do really like this but I can also see why this won’t work for everyone. Number one you can only get this if you are in the Netherlands which is a downside for everyone without access to Kruidvat makeup as a brand.
Number two I think this product can be right if you want a simple, easy to use product but don’t have high expectations. This isn’t glowy enough to be a glowy primer and as far as it making your makeup last: it gets the job done just fine.
However, if you have oily skin or very dry skin this will probably not be good enough for you either way. Therefore I can only recommend this primer for folks who want a primer but who are willing to go in with few expectations.
