One of my favorite products of 2023? The Essence Luminous Eye Tint in Shimmering Taupe. I loved this liquid eyeshadow so much that I went on a massive liquid eyeshadow hype for most of summer last year. For the new Spring/ Summer 2024 drop Essence has finally released two new shades: Glazed Candy Cloud and Sparkly Jade. Do I like these as much?

If you are in the States these two shades may look familiar because this has been out in the US for a while already. For some reason Essence doesn’t release their products in all territories at the same time and once this product launched it came in 6 shades, while the EU only got 3. We now have two new ones: a soft purple and shimmering green. Perfect for spring! Let’s test it out.
Review: Essence Luminous Eye Tint Glazed Candy Cloud & Sparkly Jade
I mean as far as liquid eyeshadow goes I just feel you don’t have to splurge. Yes, I like my Sydney Grace and Lisa Eldridge ones but at just €2.99 these Essence shadows just can’t be beat. So I am happy we finally get some more shades that are a little bit different. Let’s have a closer look at the shades.
What do these liquid shadows have to offer?

This is a thin liquid eyeshadow formula that is best build up in thin layers to achieve the desired looks. These have a luminosity to them that allows them to pair well with eyeliners and kohl pencils for a quick and easy look.
With the applicator you get some precision but I prefer to tab these in with finger for a more seamless blend. It has a water based formula and is fully vegan. These set down to a powder finish and you can use it by itself without a primer or over one to ensure longevity.
What do these shades swatch like?

In a full on swatch straight from the applicator you can see both these shades have quite a sheer base to them. The Shimmering Taupe shade I tried before had a warm base with cool toned sparkle but I feel these might work better if you layer them over a base.
Especially Glazed Candy Cloud is pretty but fairly sheer and I think you would only see the slight duochrome this has if you were to layer it over a deeper liner or cream base. Sparkly Jade has a more intense sparkle to it and a pretty green shade that scream spring to me.
What do these shadows look like on the eyes?

So as predicted these are a bit sheer. I created this look by applying a bit of bronzer in the crease. I then tapped a bit of Glazed Candy Cloud onto my top lid. I let it dry fully and applied a second layer. I then used a Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal eyeliner in Burgundy along the top lash line as I felt I need a bit more contrast and then I layered another layer of the Essence on top, which turned out to be very pretty
I used Sparkly Jade on the lower lash line which was a bad move. As with Shimmering Taupe my eyes do not like it when I use these on my lower lash line. My eyes started watering pretty much instantly and I used a Q-tip to clean up my water line which wiped off most of the shade. But it built up very well and looked pretty on. I wore this all day and it stayed put really well: these do set down after a little bit and won’t budge.
Should you buy the Essence Luminous Eye Tint?

As happy as I am that Essence has finally released new shades in one of my favorite products I do not think these shades are as good as the Shimmering Taupe one. Glazed Candy Cloud is very sheer and needs a lot of building up but would be best over a deeper base.
Sparkly Jade is pretty but due to the shimmer can easily be overdone which can cause it to crease. This happened when I tried these for the first time in my first impression video. Still, these are pretty and they stay put. With a bit of eyeliner these can be great quick easy makeup products that are great for travel. Just don’t use them on your lower lash line if you have sensitive eyes like I do.
