Glossier Stretch foundation review

My love for the infamous Glossier Stretch concealer has been well-documented on this blog. So when Glossier announced their Stretch Foundation I was all ears. Lucky me then found out that Glossier now offers international shipping. So one and one equals two and we are reviewing this foundation today.

With no chance of my finding this product in a store unless I travel to London, I took a gamble and ordered this online. The shade range consists of 32 shades and I find the undertones lacking. I couldn’t find a good pink tone that might match me so I went with Very Light 4 which is described as very light with peach undertones.

Review: Glossier Stretch Fluid foundation Very Light 4

Glossier is not a cheap brand, but at €43 this is a product that I feel is higher priced than most Glossier products. For a good foundation though it can still be reasonable given it is a good one. Texture wise I love this, shade wise I don’t.

What does this foundation have to offer?

As you can see here the foundation has a lovely texture. It is a moisturizing, glowy finish foundation that has a medium coverage. This has skincare like ingredients and a gel texture to ensure a natural finish. It should be longlasting, crease-free and be easy to use.

And I would say yes to all of these things: this is a great foundation. It has a lovely texture that feels weightless on the skin, it wears all day without looking dry or cakey and it wears really well. It is blendable and very beautiful on as you can see below. The only issue: the shade is completely off.

What is the shade match like?

As you can see here the shade Very Light 4 that should have peach undertones looks too dark and straight up yellow. Mind you, there are only 3 lighter shades in the range: the next one down is listed as warm, the next one down as pink and the lightest shade should be neutral. With this shade being super yellow, I don’t have any good hopes for the other undertones listed as the images online all make them look yellow in some way or another.

Given how dark this is I feel bamboozled by the name AND the accompanying pictures on the website. That’s what I based my pick on. They have reference images of people with very fair skin tones on their website and I picked the one that I felt matched me most. The next one down would def be too warm toned, the next one up too deep and the two lightest ones would be too light.

Even when I look at the overview of all the shades swatched out together the lightest four shades look super duper light but if this shade match is anything to go by Glossier needs to reassess what they constitute as being ‘very light’ as this is just not light enough.

What is the coverage like?

But I do really like wearing this foundation despite the bad match. It looks a little bit strange without the rest of my makeup done but when I apply the rest? It really seems to blend in. You can see here that it nicely covers up my redness, it has a decent amount of coverage but can easily be sheered out and it sits well on the skin. It looks like this even 8 – 10 hours into a workday and it never feels dry or itchy.

Should you buy the Glossier Stretch foundation?

I really wanted to fall in love with this foundation. While I love the texture and wear time of this, I don’t love the shade range. It’s too dark, too yellow and it just looks a little bit off. Yes I can make it work if I wear the rest of my makeup and I think that in the summer time the shade will be on point.

However given the reference pictures online I feel the shade matches they have online just aren’t great and can be misleading. I know I know: I shouldn’t buy foundations online, but there sometimes is no other way for people to buy certain product.

That said, I think this foundation is going to stay around my makeup collection for a while. I just love the formula of this enough to keep using it and try it again over the summer time when I might suit this shade a bit better. So is it worth it? Yes, but see if you can have a look at it in real life or get a sample before buying.
