Balea Urea eye cream

Balea Urea eye cream

I mostly swear by French pharmacy skincare brands, but how does the German drugstore fare? I went to Germany last summer and picked up lots of products from German drugstore DM. I had heard good things about their Balea line and the first thing I am testing out is the Urea Augencreme which is an eye cream.

The reason why I wanted to try some German drugstore products is because for years I have heard people raving about products from DM. And Balea is the DM house brand. So I was curious to see if it was worth the hype. Not sure I got the right products so let me know your recommendations in a comment down below.

Review: Balea Urea Augencreme

At just €2.95 this eye cream is an absolute steal if it is any good. I got this because it said it features Urea and because it is perfume free. Since a good eye cream can cost an arm and a leg, I figured that if I could find something more affordable I would actually prefer that. Here’s how that went.

What does this eye cream have to offer?

At this price point, I was a little bit skeptical: would this actually do anything at all? This is recommended for dry and sensitive skin: qualities I would say my skin has. If my German is any good, this eye cream should restore the moisture levels in the eye area and make your skin feel softer. There should be some ingredients that help against redness and flaking and induce the regeneration of your skin’s cells.

This is the ingredient list:

AQUA [WATER], UREA, GLYCERIN, POLYGLYCERYL-3 DICITRATE/STEARATE, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL, SQUALANE, DECYL COCOATE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL, HYDROGENATED COCO-GLYCERIDES, PANTHENOL, SACCHARIDE ISOMERATE, CHLORELLA VULGARIS EXTRACT, HYDROLYZED ALGIN, MARIS AQUA [SEA WATER], GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) STEROLS, GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL, STEARYL ALCOHOL, TRIACETIN, PANTOLACTONE, LECITHIN, HYDROGENATED PALM GLYCERIDES CITRATE, HEXYL LAURATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, GLYCERYL OLEATE, ACACIA SENEGAL GUM, SCLEROTIUM GUM, XANTHAN GUM, ASCORBYL PALMITATE, TOCOPHEROL, SODIUM CITRATE, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, PHENOXYETHANOL

For how affordable this is, I was surprised to find the urea and squalane boasted about on the back to be quite high up on the list. There are some oils in here as well, so there’s lots of different ingredients that actually do your skin some good.

What is my experience like?

The Balea Urea eye cream is one that works quite well. However, I have to apply this and go to bed straight away. Despite this being formulated for the eye area and being great for sensitive skin, if I apply this and then go about the rest of my evening my eyes get irritated. There are no issues when I simply go to bed, close my eyes and go to sleep though.

So while this product does what it needs to do: it’s and eye cream that works on the eye area and I really like the thin lightweight texture this has and how it sits on the skin too. However, with this irritating my eyes I do have to knock it down just a few places as I often do my skincare and then go an do other things before heading to bed. This does not allow for that. So yes cheap and cheerful, but there are some drawbacks for sure.
