When you find a super light, seemingly hydrating foundation at an affordable price point, what do you do? You try it of course! I found the Collection Hydra Serum foundaiton in the UK drugstore and decided to try it.

Now I went into this blindly. Didn’t know anything about it, wasn’t able to swatch it in store, so this was a total gamble. But if it’s not that much money I don’t mind taking a chance on a product and in this case, it sadly didn’t work out.
Review: Collection Hydra Serum foundation 4 Extra Fair
Let’s just start by saying that this foundation just sounded promising to me. At £7.99 this really doesn’t break the bank and it boasted having lots of great for your skin ingredients and so I figured: I think my dry skin is going to love it. Only, this foundation just isn’t quite right for my skin and makeup preferences.
What does this foundation have to offer?

And I kind of knew this would be not for me the minute I swatches it. Shade wise it was pretty spot on, in fact, it is a touch too light for me. But the coverage? Too heavy for my liking. The texture? Too thick for my liking.
On paper however, this foundation sounds like something I would love. It has Vitamins E & B5 and it is supposed to be super hydrating. It should feel like a serum, while still have a good medium coverage. It is non-greasy and should make light work of blemishes and other uneven skin tones. It is supposed to be glowy to boot.
What kind of coverage does this have?

So yes, this sounded like a good deal. But the medium coverage was a bit too strong for me. It just sits on my skin in a weird way. Yes it has great coverage but the foundation is just too heavy and it accentuates all my texture and dry areas. Also, no matter how hard I tried this just wouldn’t stick to my nose, which is not an issue I usually have with foundations.
What is the shade match like?

Despite the heavy texture, I also didn’t love the shade. It’s too yellow and there were very few pink tones in the line to begin with. There are even lighter shades in this line (which is great) but the deeper shades are severely lacking as there are only three. Everything else is a mid tone shade that ranges from light to medium.
Overall this foundation is also a bit too light for me overall so it looks very off which is why I tried this again in the winter time to see if my paler skin would be a better match. Sadly, my drier winter skin makes this foundation look even worse and the shade match looks even more yellow toned.
Should you buy the Collection Hydra Serum foundation?

As much as I appreciate I got to try this, this foundation just isn’t for me. The Collection Hydra Serum foundation is one that is too thick, too much coverage and too yellow toned for me.
Even though this was formulated with dry skin in mind, on my dry skin it looks cakey, patchy and it lasts about 30 minutes before it starts to look like pancake makeup. I have tried it several times and no matter how much I use it always looks like too obvious, too much and too makeuppy.
Sadly, this just wasn’t quite right for me. However, if you have dry skin that is younger than mine, you may still like this. I can definitely see this working for many people, but finding your shade may be difficult.
