Before you think: wait am I still on the right blog? Yes you are, but I found myself a sweet, almost too sweet fragrance, that I still ended up loving. The Kayali line was one I was eyeing up, but despite the hype nothing really stood out to me as something I would love. That was until they launched no. 33: Yum Pistachio Gelato.

This review will be me attempting to explain why I loved this and decided to buy it despite my favorite fragrances often not being this sweet. While I like fragrances that fall into the gourmande category, the minute it smells too much like food (cookies/ sweets) I tend to get headaches and therefore dislike them. This is the first time I have ever fallen in love with a sweet fragrance so it is worth a review.
Review: Kayali 33 | Yum Pistachio Gelato
Kayali fragrances aren’t cheap but they aren’t super expensive either. They can be found at most fragrance stores and where I live, in the Netherlands, they are sold by Ici Paris XL where I got my bottle. Kayali fragrances is often sold in places that also sell Huda Beauty as the creators of both brands are sisters. This 50 ml bottle set me back €95 at full price, but I had a discount and a giftcard which meant I got it for about half that price.
What does this fragrance smell like?

So what appealed to me about this fragrance was the instant I heard about it. I love nutty scents in my bodycare products: almond and shea butter scents are my favorite bodybutter scents. And this has pistachio and hazelnut in. The things that made me initially doubt I’d like this were the marshmellow and cotton candy notes as I was afraid it would be sickly sweet but it is not.
To me, this smells like a soft cloud: it has a sweet fragrance through it yes, but there is something fresh that cuts through it that keeps it from becoming heady. As this sits on my skin and develops through the scent layers, it turns into something boozy, warm and comforting. While this was released in the summer time, to me it is more of a fall/ winter scent for sure.
What are the fragrance notes?

According to Fragrantica the scent notes are as follows:
- Top: pistachio, ice cream, bergamot, hazelnut, rum cardamom
- Middle: lily of the valley, pear, geranium, jasmine, peony, raspberry, white peach
- Base: whipped cream, marshmellow, cotton candy, loukhoum, tonka bean, sandalwood, cedar, cacao
That is a long list of fragrance notes and I don’t get half of these coming through as I wear this. I mainly get a nutty sweet scent first that only lasts about 5 minutes. This then starts to develop into a comforting warm hug and I love it.
Should you buy Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato?
I think this fragrance is a difficult one to blind buy if you aren’t into sweet scent. This isn’t a vanilla gourmande scent (which there are many of) and I feel the scent profile is a bit more unique than most candy sweet fragrances. That’s why I like it, but that’s also why I think this isn’t for everyone.
On me it lasts a good 8 hours but it doesn’t last until the next morning, if I wear it all day. It’s not super strong either, meaning the way this projects as you wear it can be quite subtle. It isn’t one wear people will necessarily notice you wear anything at all. It’s a great fragrance to wear when you have just taken a shower or right before bed I find as it is so comforting.
So do with that what you wish. If you love sweet scents and this appeals to you, get a tester or try it on your skin in store. I definitely sampled it a few times before deciding to commit for sure.
