Catrice Vitamin C primer review

Every update Catrice does seems to come with a different primer. Sometimes those primers are great, other times they aren’t all that great. One of my all time favorite primers is the long since discontinued Catrice Fresh It Up primer. Will this new Vitamin C Fresh Glow primer be as good?

When it comes to primer I don’t believe you need a very expensive one. Sure the Milk Hydro Grip is great, but the drugstore is filled with good ones. My only issue with Catrice? They always discontinue the ones I like best.

Review: Catrice Vitamin C Fresh Glow Primer

The best part about Catrice primers? They are not that expensive. At just €4.95 this is quite possibly still a product that doesn’t break the bank. Where all makeup seems to only get more expensive, including Catrice, this still retails for roughly the same price as it has done for years.

What does this primer have to offer?

What’s in a name?! Because this product says what it will do all in one go. This is a primer that has 2% vitamin C and therefore bridges the gap between being a primer or a skincare product.

However, I feel this is not the level you’d get out or a skincare product and Vitamin C is a notoriously unstable skincare ingredient so it is advised to keep products like this in a dry dark place.

This product also has a citrus scent that is quite strong. It deterred me from using it at first as it just smells like it has a lot of fragrance in. However, now that I have been using this consistently I don’t feel this aggravates my skin in any way.

What does this swatch like?

I certainly didn’t intend to use this as a skincare product but as a primer. I apply this after my skincare routine but before I put on foundation. I always allow my primer to settle down before I go in with foundation.

Swatched you can see that this is quite a thin formula. It feels pleasant on the skin, blends in easily but I also feel I need quite a bit. This looks very glowy on the back of my hand, but I find the actual glow once this settles down is minimal.

What does this look like on the face?

Excuse the redness but my skin tends to become redder when I rub in a product like a primer and I apply primers with my hands. You can see a bit of a difference but I wouldn’t call this overly glowy.

It does feel pleasant and this does not interfere with how my makeup wears. If you are looking for a super longlasting primer this is not it, but on my dry skin this works really well. It hydrates a little bit and it allows foundation and concealer to sit on my skin looking great even after hours of wear.

Should you buy the Catrice Vitamin C primer?

This is another decent primer from Catrice. For the price point this just does what it needs to do but I don’t think you will like this if you have very oily skin. The scent is also quite strong which might scare some people off.

I like this but it’s not one I will run out the get another one of as I don’t love it as much. It is sadly not a replacement for my beloved Fresh It Up (please Catrice, bring it back!) but this is a good primer, especially at this price point.
