One brow gel that is much hyped up but that I hadn’t tried yet? The Refy Brow Tint. I had heard so many people raving about it so I wanted to give it a whirl and see whether it can beat my favorite and dirt cheap Essence Make Me Brow.
Because we all know how much I love the Essence Make Me Brow. And it is not for lack of trying. I have tried every cult favorite brow gel over the years: from the Glossier Boy Brow to the Benefit Gimme Brow. But so far the Essence remains unbeaten. Will the Refy Brow Tint finally conquer my drugstore favorite and knock it off its top spot?
Review: Refy Brow Tint Brow Gel in Soft Brown
In terms of price point this isn’t too bad. It’s certainly cheaper than the Benefit, but it’s nearly 8 times more expensive than the Essence as that is only €2.50. The Refy retails for around €19.95, but since the brand isn’t stocked within the EU (as far as I can tell), you will have to add on some shipping and handling fees unless you travel to the UK.
What does this brow gel have to offer?
The Refy Brow Tint is THE brow product to get the natural yet fluttery brow that we have seen in the online beauty community this past year. It is a water-based gel formula that should provide hold, while adding a natural tint and texture. It should make your natural brows live their best life and it is available in 4 tinted shades and a clear version.
What does this product swatch like?
Brow gels don’t make for a great swatch but I always like to do this test to see how warm toned the brow gel is. My one complaint with many brow products is that they are too red for my brows. This definitely has a good balance between warm and cool, but the texture is also very wet. That’s something new to me. Let’s see what it looks like in the brows.
How does this product look in the brow?
I love a good before and after and so here you can see my brow with just a bit of brow pencil first and then with the brow tint. You can see the brow hairs are a lot more defined and this even gives a bit of a lift.
Due to the wet formula I do feel I get some clumps especially on the slightly longer brow hairs at the front of my brow. I can easily brush them away with my finger though and the product doesn’t smudge.
What I also like about this product is that it provides hold but not in a ‘cripsy’ way. If you have ever tried a strong brow gel you will know the crispy brow feeling which is very unpleasant to me. This provides hold, but without the crisp and still it’s easy to remove.
Should you buy the Refy Brow Tint?
I think this is one of the best brow gels I have tried in years. Will it beat the Essence? This doesn’t have the fibers that that has and I think the Essence is lighter and more cool toned/ taupe leaning than this is. So I think I still prefer the Essence a bit more (sorry not sorry!).
Still, this product does to everything I like it to do: it is easy to apply, the shade is a good match, it keeps my brows in place and it adds the definition I like. The only thing I couldn’t quite test is how long this lasts because I usually experience brow gels starting to develop a strong smell after a few weeks of use.
The Essence is the only one I can keep using until it runs out (which is another reason why I like it), so you get a lot of bang for you buck. With this, only time will tell whether it can last beyond the 2 month mark, but I have been using this for about 6 weeks and it’s still going strong so far.
