We all know I like me some Rare Beauty, but their Liquid Touch concealer was not my favorite. But then they released the Positive Light Under Eye brightener and I was intrigued. Will this be the concealer like product by Rare Beauty that I fall in love with?

First up we need to discuss shade range. This is NOT a typical concealer, but it is more meant to be used like a corrector. Therefore shade wise this is only available in 5 shades. Not sure how I feel about that, because for me personally I don’t feel I need anything else with this product to get the result I like.
Review: Rare Beauty Positive Light Under Eye Brightener in Light
I always like starting my reviews by discussing the price point and this is not cheap. Even for Rare Beauty standards, I find this to be quite up there in price. At €29 for only 4 mls of product, this is pretty expensive when you consider cost per use.
What does this product have to offer?

The Rare Beauty Positive Light under eye brightener is therefore the right name for this. This product isn’t meant to be a concealer, but rather a skincare/ makeup hybrid product for the eye area that gives coverage but with a more dewy, natural look.
The promise on this product is that it will brighten, hydrate and awaken the under eye area while providing a sheer to medium coverage. The finish should be fresh and radiant and the metal ball applicator shown here should help with soothing the under eye area during application.
What does this look like in a swatch?

In a swatch you can see just how lightweight and dewy this product is. And that is exactly why I wanted to try it. If you are a lover of all things full coverage this won’t be for you. However, if like me you prefer a lightweight texture that blends easily and does just enough to cancel out dark circles than this is for you.
The formula is quite thin and I need to dip twice to cover both under eye areas. This doesn’t really work anywhere else on the face, but I have just been building up my foundation a bit more to get the coverage I like elsewhere on the face. In short, this is a great no makeup makeup product and there have been days where all I wore was a bit of this.
How does this look on the under eye area?

Here you can clearly see the difference this product makes. With the Rare Beauty Under Eye Brightener I feel my under eye area looks lighter, fresher and much better. I have however found that this performs best if I don’t set it with powder. So in these pictures I feel the product doesn’t look its best as with powder it can easily start to look a little cakey.
Shade wise the shade Light is spot on for me. It does exactly what I want and it lasts all day. Due to the dewy texture you can experience some mascara smudging but I have found that with a bit of eyeshadow primer underneath this lasts all day and doesn’t budge even if you happen to shed a tear.
Should you buy the Rare Beauty Under Eye Brightener?

I have finally found a Rare Beauty product that I can use as a concealer. Granted this is not for use all over the face and I feel the shade options are too limited for that as well. I do not like to go in with any product on top and wear this as is and I feel it works marvelously.
That being said, you will not automatically love this product if you have oily skin of if you need your concealer to be a true full coverage workhorse. This product is not meant to do that and instead provides that no makeup makeup look in an instant. I personally love that vibe as the less makeup I wear the more confident I am.
Should you run out to purchase this? Absolutely not. I don’t think many people will be able to find their shade as only 5 shades just isn’t enough. This is supposed to brighten and highlight the under eye though and I think the formula here definitely does do that.
