Catrice Cheek Affair review

One of the final products I have to review for you, before I can do my usual round up review of all the new Essence & Catrice bits is the Catrice Cheek Affair. This duo face palette features a blush and highlight in one. Is it as good as some other Catrice blushes?

For some reason I am really on a cool toned blush kick and it shows, because this is the third cool toned blush I have to show you from the new Fall/ Winter Essence & Catrice 2024 updates that were released. There was the new shade in the Air Blush Glow also by Catrice, but I also tried the Essence Pure Nude blush in a cool toned berry shade.

Review: Catrice Cheek Affair face palette in 010 Love at First Swipe

We all know Catrice knows how to keep things affordable but this product is a touch more expensive than I had expected. At €5.49 a pop for a tiny highlight and a decent sized blush I am not sure I find this worth it. The single blush Air Blush Glow retails for just a euro less, but it comes in far better shades. This only comes in 2, but you do get 10 grams of product.

What does this blush have to offer?

I think this product does look very pretty. There are two shades: one cooler tone and one warmer tone. The warm tone has a deeper shade as well with a deeper highlight. The cool toned one which is called Love at First Swipe is what I am showing you here and definitely lighter. I just wished the highlighter was also cooler toned: I don’t feel the gold highlight and blush necessarily go together very well.

What does this palette swatch like?

My main reason for trying this was the blush shade. The highlight? Not so much and it also turns out to be the disappointment of the two shades here.

The highlighter is not only quite champagne gold with a touch of white, it also has quite a thick, heavy texture that looks too unnatural on the skin as it is difficult to blend out.

The blush on the other hand really brings this to the next level as it sheers out beautifully has a slight sheen and I love that hint of purple/ blue on my cheeks, especially in the winter time.

What does this look like on the face?

At the top you can see the highlighter and at the bottom you can see the blush being added to it. You can clearly see a stripe where I applied the highlighter in the top picture. Which is a shame. I prefer a more dewy, lit from within highlight and this is not that. It’s giving Ofra Rodeo Drive from 2016 kind of vibes and it’s just not it.

The blush truly steels the show. On the cheeks this builds up, it gives a natural flush to my fair skin but I was surprised at how little I needed. Here again, a little goes a long way, just like with the highlighter and I find this almost too pgimented for my liking. On me it even looks almost red, which you can see below.

Should you buy the Catrice Cheek Affair face palette?

I am never quite convinced that these types of products are useful for many people, which is why I always hesitate to recommend them to people. It may seem like a good deal as you get two products for the price of one, but if you only like one product here is it then still worth it?

That is the question you need to ask yourself when looking into this. If you think you can get a lot of use out of both shades, I’d say: go for it! However if like me, you have the experience with these palettes that you like just one shade and not the other, you may just be better off buying a single.
