Gucci Bloom Aqua Di Fiori review

Why oh why do I seem to have a penchant for trying discontinued perfume? Yet again, by the time I decided to give this fragrance a review, I come to find out it’s no longer for sale through most regular retailers. So instead of raving about this, I will have to answer the question: is this worth hunting down? Let’s discus.

So about a year or 2 ago, I decided I wanted to try something different. I found most raved about fragrance too sweet and heady and so I honed in on the green/ fresh category. I found some I liked but I really wanted to find THE ONE green fragrance for me. In that search I bought a small 30 ml bottle of Gucci Bloom Aqua Di Fiori. Is this the green & fresh fragrance of my dreams?

Review: Gucci Bloom Aqua di Fiori

While discontinued there are still a few websites I can find that still stock this. You may be paying much more for this than the original price point though. I can find this for €99 for a 50 ml bottle currently from a reliable retailer (bol.com if you’re in The Netherlands), but I am pretty sure I didn’t pay that much for this when I got my bottle from my local Douglas. I think I got it during a 25% off sale AND I had a gift card. I am pretty sure I paid around 30 euros for this bottle.

What does this fragrance have to offer?

According to Fragrantica this is a white floral, green fragrance with a woodsy vibe. My main reason for wanting to try is, but when I smelled this in store something told me to hold off and that’s why I only bought a small bottle. This has a very sharp edge to it that sometimes I like and sometimes I find very off putting. When looking at the fragrance notes I think I have found the culprit. These are the notes:

  • Top: Galbanum leaf, cassis, bergamot, lemon
  • Middle: Honeysuckle, Tuberose, Jasmine, Lily-of-the-Valley, Freesia
  • Base: Musk, Iso E Super, Sandalwood

It’s the jasmine in the middle notes. On my skin’s chemistry a jasmine note hardly ever picks up nicely and with this fragrance it can sometimes be smelled and sometimes it nicely blends in with the rest of the florals. I personally love this better after wearing it a few hours when the wood notes come through and it develops some warmth.

What drew me in though were those hints of fresh notes at the start of the accord. It’s the middle I could do without but I do feel that if I’m patient this smells really nice and it is a great spring fragrance. The mix of fresh with wood notes gives it an earthy scent which I find very rich and comforting.

Should you buy this fragrance?

I don’t think this is necessarily worth hunting down at all costs. It is a good one for sure if you like that earthy fresh scent that I like about this. If you are not a fan of overly floral fragrances this is not for you. I feel that after about 30 minutes of wear that sharp white floral accord comes through in full force and then I just don’t love this. Luckily this is quickly exchanged for a warm musky scent that still smells fresh and then I love it. This is a great one for spring but I have a couple of perfect ‘fresh for spring’ fragrance reviews lined up for you that I love equally to this.
