Finding a good coral lipstick that isn’t too orange? Quite a feat it turned out. Over time, I have decluttered most of my coral lipsticks as I felt they didn’t quite suit me. Every time I would wear them, it seemed like something was off. So I went on the hunt for the perfect coral lipstick. And guess what?! I found it in Urban Decay’s Checkmate!

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Comfort Matte Checkmate
Now it is no secret that I love the Urban Decay Vice lipsticks. I bought a few when they first launched and that tasted like more. I especially liked the comfort matte formula so I searched for another shade in the line that had that finish that was unique to add something new to my lipstick collection. Like the others, this costs €19.50 and is a great cruelty free option, if you want to try something more high end.
The Packaging

The packaging of the Vice lipsticks is to die for. These are some stunning lipsticks inside and out. The packaging is mirrored gunmetal with the brand name embossed in the side. The color of the lipstick is represented by a sticker on the bottom. Handy, because if you have a few of these you can easily tell them apart.
The Lipstick

Checkmate is a bright coral shade. It pulls much more pink than most corals and that is why this is very flattering on. The comfort matte finish means this lipstick is not only comfortable, but also has a matte finish that lasts nearly all day. I find all Vice lipsticks to wear well, but especially the comfort mattes are especially great when it comes to the wear time. This lasts past lunch and won’t need a touch up until at the end of the workday.
The Swatch

Look at that pigment! I love how pigmented these lipsticks are. They apply smoothly and this amount of pigment is achieved with just one swipe. That is amazing. As you can see this still has a bit of shine to it, but this is definitely more of a matte shade. I have great experience with all Vice lipsticks. These do not feather or wear in a weird way. Because of the pointed bullet they are easy to apply without a lip liner.
The Application

On my lips this looks a bit patchy up close. I have these issues with shades like this all the time. Since my lips are naturally very pigmented, many of these lighter lipstick shades never really go on fully opaque. However, from a distance you can’t tell that there is a bit of sheerness to this lipstick. Full face, this lipstick looks very pretty on. With a smokey look, or with a more natural look: it goes with many different makeup looks and it is a great shade for the summer time.
The Conclusion
Yes, this is a great addition to my Urban Decay Vice lipstick family. In fact, I have a few more that I have been eyeing up so I’m sure that in the future I will buy more of these. This shade is perfect for this time of year and with a lipstick formula that is so easy to wear and great quality means that it also gets a lot of wear. If you are looking for a great lipstick that has a fun shade for summer: then I can highly recommend this one.
